My name is Mason Porter. I am a Professor in Nordita (Nordic Institute for Theoretical Physics) and am Professor in Complex Systems in the Department of Mathematics at Stockholm University. Previously, I was a Professor in the Department of Mathematics at UCLA. Before that, I was Professor of Nonlinear and Complex Systems in the Mathematical Institute at University of Oxford. I was also a Tutorial Fellow of Somerville College. I am still a Senior Research Fellow of Somerville College.

RIP Skip Caray (1939-2008)
I just saw this article that Braves broadcaster Skip Caray has died. While his father Harry Caray was famous for his informal broadcasting style (especially his singing of 'Take Me Out to the Ball Game'), Skip was known for his sarcastic wit in the broadcast booth. He was an excellent announcer---one of the best. He had been having lots of health problems (diabetes, etc.) and was on a reduced broadcast schedule this year.
I got to hear many of the games he was on this year, and he was great. I'm sad that he passed away as I was only beginning to get to listen to him.
ReplyDeleteThis has me feeling down as well. The main reason I got to listen to him so much over the years is that TBS is on everywhere, and I'm glad I got the chance to watch those games. The quality of the announcer makes all the difference in the world and forms a fundamental and (if done well) engaging part of the whole experience. Skip Caray was one of my favorites.
