My name is Mason Porter. I am a Professor in Nordita (Nordic Institute for Theoretical Physics) and am Professor in Complex Systems in the Department of Mathematics at Stockholm University. Previously, I was a Professor in the Department of Mathematics at UCLA. Before that, I was Professor of Nonlinear and Complex Systems in the Mathematical Institute at University of Oxford. I was also a Tutorial Fellow of Somerville College. I am still a Senior Research Fellow of Somerville College.

RIP Casey Kasem (1932–2014)
Casey Kasem, whose soothing voice presented weekly top 40 songs when I was a kid (and for many years before then), died yesterday. One thing I hadn't realized is that Kasem was also the voice of Shaggy in the cartoon Scooby-Doo!
Another recent death is that of Ann B. Davis (1926 –2014), who played the character Alice on The Brady Bunch (whose reruns aired when I was a kid).
