My name is Mason Porter. I am a Professor in the Department of Mathematics at UCLA. Previously I was Professor of Nonlinear and Complex Systems in the Mathematical Institute at University of Oxford. I was also a Tutorial Fellow of Somerville College.

Can someone explain to me how he _needs_ $190,000 to support his training for 2 years? My guess is that he could live in his parents' basement, eat raman and tofu, train as much as humanly possible and easily get by on less than $25,000 in that time frame.
That is a good question. I only looked at the one article---just to find something quick to use as a link that was text rather than video---and this wasn't brought up.
