What an epic battle against the Blue Jays!!!!

Yoshinobu Yamamoto is obviously going to win the World Series MVP.

Will Smith caught the most innings ever in a single World Series.

There were many other records set, records tied, and epic performances. This was quite a series!

The Dodgers are Going to the World Series!!!

The Dodgers beat the Mets in the 6th game of the National League Championship Series (NLCS), and we're now off to the World Series to face the Yankees!

This is the 12th time that Dodgers and the Yankees (our traditional rivals) are facing each other in the World Series, though it's the first time since 1981.

The Dodgers scored a record number (46) of runs for an NLCS (and the second-highest total for any league championship series), and — I think, if I understood the broadcast correctly — Shohei Ohtani reached base a record number of times for a postseason series.

The NLCS most valuable player (MVP) is Tommy Edman.

The Dodgers are Heading to the World Series! (2020 Edition)

The Dodgers have come from behind from a deficit of 3 games to 1 to defeat the Atlanta Braves in game 7 of the National League Championship Series. We're heading to the World Series! 

(It hasn't been announced yet as I write this, but I assume that Corey Seager is going to be named the Most Valuable Player of the NLCS.)

Update: As expected, Seager has been named the MVP.

Montreal Expos Win First World Series in Franchise History!

I mean The Washington Nationals, of course. ;)

Dodgers Win Game 3 of the World Series 3–2 in 18 Innings!

Wow!

It's a great day for a ball game. Let's play two!

Many records were set, including longest postseason game (by time) and longest World Series game (by both inning and time). It tied the record for most innings in a postseason game.

(We're still down 2 games to 1, so we have an uphill climb. But today was really exciting. Let's see what tomorrow brings!)

We're Going to the World Series!!!!

The Dodgers are going to the World Series for the first time since 1988!!!!!!!!

Update: The co-most valuable players (co-MVPs) of the National League Championship Series, in which we just beat the Chicago Cubs, are Chris Taylor and Justin Turner. (I thought that Justin Turner would be the lone MVP, but this choice also seems sensible.)

They Ain't Afraid of No Goat (Cubs Win)

The deciding Game 7 of the 2016 World Series just ended. (I blogged about it yesterday.)

The Chicago Cubs won today's game (and thus the World Series) by a score of 8 to 7 in 10 innings (and a brief rain delay). Wow! The last time the Cubs had won a World Series was 1908(!), and they hadn't even gotten into the World Series since 1945. Their curse is over, and they ain't afraid of no goat. (The Cubs were down 3 games to 1 and game back to win an exciting and historic series. Back to the Future, Part II was off by only one year.)

The Cleveland Indians, the opponents of the Cubs, also have a long drought, having not won a World Series since 1948.

Both teams (and especially the Cubs, who are a juggernaut) have built teams that are going to be great for several years. The Cubs were the favorites before the season even started, and rightly so.

Update (11/04/16): The victory parade was apparently the 7th-largest gathering in human history. Very cool! It's Going to Game 7!

With Chicago's victory today, tomorrow is going to be Game 7 of the World Series between the Cubs and Indians, two teams who have not won in a very long time. One game to rule them all. Very exciting!

Wait 'Til Next Year (Again)

Well, it's time to Wait 'Til Next Year (again).

It's been 28 years since we won, so I have developed some patience over the years.

In the NLCS, the Dodgers were outplayed by a substantial margin by a very good team that was the favorite from the beginning for good reason. Good luck to the Cubs in the World Series. Their fans have been waiting a lot longer than I have. (And the fans' reaction I see on tv right now is far more emotional than one typically sees from World-Series-bound teams, and also for good reason.)

The World Series this year is quite an interesting matchup: the Cubs versus the Indians, and it's been a very long time since either of them won it all.

Hopefully it will be our year in 2017.

Update 2: Also, for what it's worth (and even though Charlie Sheen is a nutjob), I would actually like to see Wild Thing throw out the first pitch. And then Bob Uecker could announce that first pitch!

25th Anniversary of Gibson's Homer
