Expense Claims and Fortune-Cookie Fortunes

Hmmm.... I should start including fortunate-cookie fortunes (as easter eggs) with the mounds of receipts that go with my expense-claim forms.

Maybe something like "Confucius says switching to per diem will bring good luck."

Today's Fortune: My "Emotional Currents are Flowing"

I just got the following fortune today: "Your emotional currents are flowing powerfully now [in bed]."

I guess "emotional currents" is what people call such things nowadays. Quite the euphemism, though this is more of a "fortune" than a fortune.

And, for the second time in 3 days, a fortune cookie is inviting me to learn the Chinese word for pumpkin.

Ambiguous Fortune Cookie

"The world will soon be ready to receive your talents [in bed]."

The two possible meanings are pretty different from each other (though they do overlap a little bit).

This evening, I got one of the best "fortunes" I have ever received: "You can always tell luck from ability by its duration [in bed]."

My fortune cookie today was a bit unfortunate (pun intended): "It is better to have a hen tomorrow than an egg today (in bed)." D'oh!

Today's fortunes (and a bit of ranting)

Today has been one of those really hectic days that just stress me out. I have sent more than forty e-mails today, and nearly all of them have been work-related (with nary a pleasure e-mail to be found...). When this happens, it typically means that (1) I've been working very hard that day and (2) it probably didn't involve much time spent on the stuff I had been planning to do. Hence, at the end of such days, I typically either have progressed very little, not progressed at all, or fallen farther behind --- all while working the entire time rather than goofing off. Add to that the fact that I had over two hours' worth of meetings today and would have had more had I not gotten stood up for another meeting (which has now been rescheduled for tomorrow, so that I now have five meetings scheduled for this oh-so-wonderful of weekdays...) and it's made for a very stressful day. I also have more work I'm going to do tonight in order to keep afloat. I also worked for several hours last night. Work spikes are fun.

Oh, and there is a rant based on one of today's things that I will give in a forthcoming blog entry. I won't write that one tonight, however, because it might take a little while and I hope to spend some time either playing games or reading for pleasure.

Long preamble aside, here are (in order) the fortunes I got today:

"Draw up a budget and figure out how to cut down your debt." (Hell yeah! I'm goin' pimpin'!)

"Today is an ideal time to water your personal garden." (OK, that's just gross.)

I decided to do a bonus track because two songs were by one group and three other songs had a strong connection to another group.

This isn't among the stronger groups of songs from my collection, though there are definitely some good ones there. The best one in the above crowd by far is "Dream On".

I don't remember the key to determining what my fortune is, though song 10's title is quite appropriate.

By the way, can anybody guess the theme surrounding when I do these fortunes?

Random 10 (starting over edition)

Well, there's this nice laptop-shaped box that arrived in my office today, so it looks like this will be the last random 10 with this computer as my primary computer (and presumably my last one ever on this computer, though I will be keeping it as a back-up). I'll need a ride home to transfer it tomorrow, but that should be easy enough to procure. I'll also need to start over in more unfortunate manners (hence the lousy mood and the major feelings of melancholy and nostalgia), but that's life. Let's see what type of fortune iTunes gives me:

Here is the key to interpreting the above.

Well, (1) is certainly close to right on the money. (2) is pretty damn appropriate, too. (I should say, though, that the fact that I really like 80s music helps a lot in getting something appropriate for many of these.) I'm not quite sure how to intepret (3), but I don't think it's wholly inappropriate either. (4) makes no sense. I'm not so sure about (5) either. I guess (6) is saying that I'm going to find religion. Not bloody likely. (7) is indicating that I am questioning things using Jewish folk music. Not exactly. I have to say that (8) is just plain harsh. Ouch! I really hope not! (9) isn't so apt at the moment. Maybe I'd have something to say about (10) if I actually knew what the song was about. Unfortunately, I am not as familiar with it as with most of the other songs.

As for song quality, (1) wins hands down.
