Headline of the Day: Blasphemy Edition

The headline of this article is worth its weight in gold.

The headline (in the preview, as seen on a Facebook post): Irish police drop Stephen Fry blasphemy investigation due to 'lack of outraged people'

The headline in the article itself is of the same spirit (and still great), but the wording is slightly different.

P.S. Don't ask me how much a headline weighs.

(Tip of the cap to whoever posts on behalf of the Douglas Adams page on Facebook.)

Update: Note that the article is from 2017, so it is not new news.

Headline: "Bowser to Take Over Nintendo’s U.S. Division"

After seeing this news, now I know for sure that we're living in a dystopia.

Googly Eyes, and Freshness of Fish

Well, this story is fishy. Wow. (And oy vey.)

The headline pretty much sums it up: Store shut down after owners caught sticking googly eyes on fish to look fresher

P.S. There are also other uses for googly eyes.

Headline of the Day: Well Played

Look closely at the various ways that one can parse this headline. ;)

Headline of the Day: "Sheep Learn to Recognise Celebrity Faces from Different Angles"

This applies to all kinds of sheep. :P

(This is one of the most brilliant headlines I have ever seen, especially with the accompanying picture.)

"Los Angeles Airport Evacuation Sparked by Actor Dressed as Zorro 'Waving Plastic Sword'"

Well, this headline is pretty bizarre: "Los Angeles Airport Evacuation Sparked by Actor Dressed as Zorro 'Waving Plastic Sword'".

Today's Headline: "German Man Dies After Blowing Up Condom Machine"

I think we may have a winner in our Headline-of-the-Week competition: "German Man Dies After Blowing Up Condom Machine".

Yup, that's a pretty spectacular headline.

Beware: Protein Shakes are Dangerous

This trending Facebook headline is absurd, and it thus amuses me.

Layout Fail on CNN.com

That's quite a layout fail, CNN.com.

One of the things we learn about in journalism concerns the relative placement of different articles---including if one headline might be confused as the tagline for the other.

CNN.com, I think that one of your employees probably needs to brush up on this lesson.

In Real Life As Well, Let the Wookie Win

I love this particular Facebook 'trending' headline.

Remember: Let the wookie win.

Update: There is also a video of the incident.

Headlines and the Name Game

Sometimes, somebody has a last name that makes a headline awesome. No umlaut, but this headline from today's Beverly Hills Weekly is still pretty damn good.

Update: This of course reminds me of a certain scene in a certain Mel Brooks movie. (And while I'm thinking of that movie, don't forget this scene.)

"Awesome" Headlines

Some of these newspaper headlines are "awesome" (as well as awesome). I approve!

I have seen a few of these circulating around the internet, and I remember at least two of them (the baseball ones) from the original newspaper articles themselves before they were circulated because of their humor content.
